{"id":15,"date":"2015-04-05T16:33:22","date_gmt":"2015-04-05T16:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenewagesite.com\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2022-07-27T22:35:58","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T03:35:58","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.thenewagesite.com\/index.php\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This site is about New Age ideas and beliefs.\u00a0\u00a0The New Age movement is diverse and this site does not necessarily represent all of them. theNewAgeSite\u00a0is primarily about the ideas and beliefs that can help us arrive at the New Age predicted almost two thousand years ago.<\/p>\n<p>In the New Testament we have a scene where the Apostles are asking Jesus\u00a0about his return at the end of the age\u00a0(the age of <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pisces_(astrology)\">Pisces,<\/a>\u00a0symbolized by early Christians as a fish). Unfortunately most translations mistranslate this as the \u201c<i>end of the world<\/i>.\u201d (see <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+24%3A3&amp;version=KJV\">KJV<\/a>) The New International Version (<a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+24%3A3&amp;version=NIV\">NIV<\/a>) however gives a more correct translation:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. \u201cTell us,\u201d they said, \u201cwhen will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of<em><strong> the end of the age<\/strong><\/em>?\u201d <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+24:3&amp;version=NIV\">Matthew 24:3 NIV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are now living at the end of\u00a0that\u00a0age and the beginning of a new one which New Agers most often call the Age of Aquarius. There is an old Chinese curse, \u201c<i>May you live in interesting times<\/i>.\u201d These are\u00a0interesting times indeed!<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we wonder how we can get from where we are now to that new age that humanity has waited for so long. \u00a0There are no guarantees that there won\u2019t be some difficult times on that journey.<\/p>\n<p>Author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewagesite.com\/index.php\/j-j-dewey\/?customize_changeset_uuid=e1c644a7-e7d2-4d2c-8e87-e46d2757800a&amp;customize_autosaved=on&amp;customize_messenger_channel=preview-1\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joseph J. Dewey<\/a>, author of <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Gathering-Lights-J-Dewey-ebook\/dp\/B008LCX4KW\/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1495384528&amp;sr=1-6&amp;keywords=the+gathering+of+lights\">The Gathering of Lights<\/a>, writes about the New Age:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cWe are moving from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius. We will be securely into this coming new age in about 150 years and most expect this to be an enlightened age of brotherhood and peace as well as human advancement. Right now we are in the transition phase and the division between the old age and new age thinking is coming into greater contrast.\u201d \u00a0\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cThe Aquarian Age switches from water to air. Air is the symbol of mind. The beginnings of this age were manifest at the writing of the Constitution of the United States. We are now about half way into the full manifestation of the New Age.\u201d \u00a0\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cGovernment of the people, by the people and for the people\u201d is definitely one of the keynotes of the New Age.\u201d \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewagesite.com\/index.php\/j-j-dewey\/?customize_changeset_uuid=e1c644a7-e7d2-4d2c-8e87-e46d2757800a&amp;customize_autosaved=on&amp;customize_messenger_channel=preview-1\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joseph J. Dewey<\/a>, <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freeread.com\/archives\/1131.html\">The New Age (Nov. 11, 2001)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Author\u00a0Nevill Drury also gave a good overall description of the New Age movement:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cThe New Age is essentially about the search for spiritual and philosophical perspectives that will help transform humanity and the world. New Agers are willing to absorb wisdom teachings wherever they can find them, whether from an Indian guru, a renegade Christian priest, an itinerant Buddhist monk, an experiential psychotherapist or a Native American shaman. They are eager to explore their own inner potential with a view to becoming part of a broader process of social transformation. Their journey is towards totality of being.\u201d \u00a0<a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" title=\"Nevill Drury\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nevill_Drury\">Drury, Nevill<\/a> (2004). <a class=\"customize-unpreviewable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/New-Age-History-Movement\/dp\/0500285160\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1495381951&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=9780500285169\"><i>The New Age:\u00a0The History of a Movement<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0touches on a very important aspect of the New Age which is the willingness to seek truth wherever one can find it. For the New Ager \u201c<em>there is no religion higher than truth<\/em>.\u201d To quote Joseph J. Dewey again:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cTake that belief which is embraced by the world and look in the opposite direction. In this opposite direction much truth lies hidden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An important aspect of \u201clook[ing] in the opposite direction\u201d is the ability to question authority. There will much more to say about that in future blog posts here.\u00a0I hope to explore many ideas and themes about this coming New Age.
