Law of Distribution

Law of Distribution

Below is the only known reference to the Law of Distribution in the writings of Alice A. Bailey (AAB) and Djwhal Khul (DK). Links on these pages of the Laws of Alice A. Bailey are to the online books at the Lucis Trust website.

For a discussion of what AAB means by a “law” please see  Alice A. Bailey – What is a Law?

The method of the Master’s work upon this Path is also not easily understood. It can be summed up in the following words which may bring some light via their united meaning (each phrase contributing an idea), if due reflection is brought to bear upon them:

Isolated Unity … the position of the Master

A positive Focus … the mental attitude

Sound, under the Law of Attraction … the means employed

Precipitation … the intention visioned

Passage through the Triangle … the projection ensuing

Directive work under the Law of Distribution … direction towards the goal.

These phrases may give some vague idea of a process, based on “reception, then direction, producing rejection and impact where the rejecting agency ordained.”

The mention of the Law of Distribution in the works of AAB is extremely terse with no explanation as to what is meant. However C. W. Leadbeater, an early an controversial Theosophist in his Law of Cause and Effect may shed some light on it:

“It is necessary to realise that we have all of us had many lives, not only one or two; and that since we have gradually raised ourselves to this level, those previous incarnations were all probably less advanced in many ways than our present one. We must all have been savages in the past – and probably not once, but many times. So we must have done a great many evil and undesirable things, and we must each one of us have a tolerably heavy bill to pay. So there arises the question how we are to clear off such an accumulation of evil results. In such lives as the more thoughtful among us are living now, we may reasonably hope that there is a preponderance of good over evil; but undoubtedly the reverse must have been the case in very many of our earlier existences, and if we had to bear in any one life the whole of the suffering due to us on the entire account, we might well find it sufficient to crush us to the earth, and prevent us from evolving at all. Since the object of the whole scheme is man’s evolution, that obviously cannot be permitted; and consequently we find that there comes into operation here a certain law of distribution or adaptation assigning to each successive life such proportion of the debt as can best be paid in it. This modification does not in the least change or reduce the results of our past deeds, but it does so apportion them as to prevent them from overwhelming us.”
